Our Stories

Their Opportunity To Gather

Parkinson’s Program

One of our mission programs that we are proud to offer is for individuals with Parkinson’s. We began this program in June of 2019 soon after we opened our new Spin Studio. We were looking for a meaningful way to utilize this space to help people in the community and knew exercise plays an important part in reducing symptoms for Parkinson’s and other neurological diseases. We are able to offer this program at no cost to our participants.

In what we call “Parkinson’s Pedalers”, our longtime instructors Lara Collmann and Mary Tebbe, teach a bike workout followed by strength and stretching two days a week. In addition, we offer a Support Group that meets monthly at our Niebur Center. The group offers a chance for participants and their caretakers to gather together sharing advice based on their experiences, listen to speakers who provide helpful information and tips for living an active life with Parkinson’s disease. The participants also have a great time together during holiday celebrations, breakout sessions for caregivers, and so much more.

Our excellent volunteer mentors for the Parkinson’s Support Group, Mary LaRose and Jean Price, have helped foster community in this growing group. Price, a retired nurse, has volunteered for two years said, “these people are so strong. We laugh and they talk. It is a social thing.” LaRose, a retired physical therapist, said “it’s a lovely group. They have been dealt a difficult diagnosis, but they are working hard through it. They are so positive and eager to share things that have worked for them. It’s very inspirational.”

Join us at the Niebur Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:00am – Noon for Parkinson’s Pedalers and on the first Tuesday of each month at 2:00pm for our Support Group. You can experience how exercise can improve not only physical ability, but also hope and connection all in a welcoming space to share experiences, learn from others and find encouragement on the journey. Together, we celebrate every milestone, big or small, as we move toward greater strength and independence.

Annual Campaign

The Edwardsville YMCA offers programs and community connections that positively impact lives through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility while building spirit, mind and body for all!

The Edwardsville YMCA is a non-profit charitable organization, independent from other YMCAs, serving local youth, adults and families in Edwardsville, Glen Carbon and surrounding communities since 1949.

As a leader and partner in our ever-changing community, the Edwardsville YMCA offers a place to serve as a safe space for kids, a gathering place for
active older adults to connect and an affordable option for everyone in between.

That is why the YMCA Financial Assistance Program has and always will be a high priority. Through that program, and because of your support, thousands of people have enjoyed the facilities, programs, and services offered by the YMCA. They are your friends, neighbors, coworkers, customers.

Through our Financial Assistance Program, we give people a helping hand whether it is for a membership or class, summer camp or even a spot at our Early Childhood Development Center. The need for assistance has grown dramatically over the years and now more than ever we need the support of our community, members and friends to lend a hand to help others.

Every gift makes a difference.
Everyone has a role to play.
Together, we can do so much more.

At the Edwardsville Y, strengthening community is our cause. We know when we work together, we move more individuals, families and our community forward. Every day, Y staff, volunteers, members, friends, and community partners work side-by-side to ensure that everyone can enjoy the YMCA.

Together, we can make this a reality for the YMCA and those that need and want our services. The possibilities are endless because of committed Y friends and generous donors like you.
